Humanity has create a visual language and we use it, sometimes without knowing it. This visual language is form by our face spression, our body movements, but also the meaning of images objects and forms arround us.

Principles of visual perception

Gestalt psychology, consists of a principles on how perception helps us understand and orgainse forms or figures.

PROXIMITY: We see the closest objects as a group.

SIMILARITY: We perceive similar elements with something in common as a group.

CONTINUITY: We perceive grouped elements in continuous straight or curved lines as a unit.

CLOSING: We complet unfinished parts of a figure when visual information is uncomplete.

FIGURE AND BACKGROUND: We generally focus on the figure instead of the background, we cannot observe both simultaneously.

Lets see some art related to the Gestalt theory. Adri Bodor and Mark Szulyovskym are using this theory to create this images you are going to see in the link. Think Invisible is the name of the project, using three circles they saw just one part of the ilustrations, you have to complete the image with your mind. Go to the game.

Finaly here you have examples of the activity we are doing in class. We are going to practice with the CLOSING rule, objects that we close with our mind but that are not really closed. Here you have a few examples:
