2nd ESO ART. UNIT 5.4 Sign, Symbol, Logo and logotype

A SIGN is an image. This image communicates a warning or indication. It will possess more communication power by being simpler and more expressive.

A SYMBOL is a picture.
In the words of Merriam-Webster Dictionary: an action, object, event, etc., that expresses or represents a particular idea or quality. Symbols come in handy on a global communication basis because the whole world does not use the same language.

A LOGO is a word. Logo is short for logotype which literally means ‘word imprint’ in Greek. This is why sometimes logo types are also called wordmarks. A true logo is nothing but stylized letters and if there is something that can not be read then it is no longer considered a logo.

Sometimes it is no easy to distinguish Symbols an Logos. We are going to see a few examples in this video that will help.

Now we are going to do a logo in class. What do we need to know about the brand we will represent?
