We are going to start our trip to Geometry with the basic elements we use. Points, Lines and Planes.
Let's see a video for kids that helps us understand and learn the definition of them:
Geometry: It is an area of knowledge which studies any elements ando poerations on and in the plane such as points, lines or shapes.
The name comes from the Greek "geo" which means "earth" and "metry" which means "measurement".
Point: In geometry a point is the place or location where two lines intersect. A pint has no dimensions, ho height and on width.
Line: A one dimensional object formed of infinite points.
Lines can be clasificated as:
- straight line ( it has no beginning and no end)
- ray (it has a beginning but no end)
- line segment ( it has a beginning and an end)
Vocabulary:
- Lenght: Measurement of something from end to end
- Midpoint: It is a point halfway between the endpoints of the line segment.
- End point: It is a point at which a line segment or a ray ends or starts.
- Freehand: Drawn by hand without guiding instruments or measurements.
- Protactor: An instrument form measurin or drawing angles on paper, usually a flat semicircular transparent plastic sheet graduated in degrees.
- Setsquares: They are two special rulers with a triangular shape. One is called the 45º triangle and the other the 30ª/60ª triangle. Both have the 90º angle.
