Photography is an essential technique for transmitting visual information. As a beginner photographer you should be looking at the images made by other photographers, people whose work you admire. Among the many things that you may no doubt notice, you may also have noticed that somehow the compositions of these photographers tend to be a lot more eye catching.
There is no magic wand which you can wave and your photography can become better all of a sudden. It does take a considerable amount of time and energy to develop the necessary skills to make great images. The first thing you must consider is a good understanding of the Compositional Rules of photography.
This compositional rules are not designed to remove your creativity. Once you have mastered these rules, you would be able to go beyond them, break them whenever necessary so that you can create even more captivating images and you will consider them as guides.
This year we are going to focus just in three of them: "Rule of thirds", "Rule of space" and "Rule of the horizon line"
Exercise: You have to Take three pictures trying to apply one of the compositional rules in each of them. One picture for each rule. Then you have to send the picture by email to the adress: asimonmendez.photo@blogger.com
Your email should have the name of the rule you are applying, your name, first letter of your surname, name and letter of your class, the photograph and then a brief description of the image explaining how and why you took it. You are going to publish your message in the blog, read twice before you send the message. Do not send personal images.
Publications that are not made like this will not be validated. You will be able to see all the images as they are published here, and also other year's photographs: https://fotoaldebaran.blogspot.com/

RULE OF THIRDS: The point of interest is in one of the four points where the lines that you use to divide the image cross. You can see it in the photograph below, the lighthouse is positioned in two of those points in the right side of the image.
RULE OF SPACE: This refers to a person or an animal as they are looking to somewhere. In front of the eyes of the person/animal there have to be more space than behind it. You can see it in the photograph below, a butterfly looking to the right, there is a big active space in front of his look and less dead space behind.
RULE OF THE HORIZON LINE: This refers to a landscape. You have to divide the image in three spaces with two lines and position the horizon line in one of those two lines. If you have to give more importance to the sky then the horizon is going to be in the botton line. You can see in the photograph below that here the most important thing is the ground and they position the horizon line in the top line giving two parts of the image to the landscape and one to the sky.
